Lectures and training

Nothing quite beats a live audience and I love giving lectures and talks to groups, societies and organisations.

I can offer a range of talks about botanical subjects including how to create and look after wildflower meadows, how to look after your lawn for pollinators, and also about gardening with wild plants.

For conservation organisations, NGOs, professional groups and environmental managers I offer more detailed training workshops on all aspects of grassland, meadow and road verge restoration, management and survey techniques based on the latest scientific research. These can be tailored to your needs and can include field visits if desired.

Sharing a stage with Sir David Attenborough

If anyone asks about a career highlight, mine has to be meeting my childhood hero, Sir David Attenborough, when I launched the State of Nature report with him in 2016.

All my life his passion and enthusiasm have been an inspiration. I remember watching the breathtaking BBC Life on Earth when I was just 10 years old and it made a deep and lasting impression.

To stand on the same stage and hear the power of his words was a privilege I’ll never forget.

Now, in The Green Planet, I’m relishing his obvious delight in the world of plants. “This is about a parallel world which exists alongside us and which is the basis of our own lives and to which we have paid scant attention over the years.” Well, it’s time to change that Sir David!
